| Seminar or WorkshopThe Perfect Towel. |
|
|
| Description: |
What’s a perfect towel? It’s a beautiful functional towel that serves your needs. After weaving hundreds of towels Tracy has put together a handout detailing exactly what makes the perfect towel perfect! Topics covered are fiber, sett, size, structure, design and more. Tracy will bring her personal collection of wonderful towels woven by an assortment of wonderful weavers to share! |
| Equipment/Facility Needs: |
I need 2, 6’ tables for display and the participants will
need tables (can be narrow) for the one-day studio class. |
| Equipment/Supplies for Students: |
For the one-day studio class participants will need to
bring colored pencils and graph paper. For the seminar
nothing is needed. |
| Duration of Workshop: |
This can be presented as a half day seminar or a full day
workshop. If the full day option is chosen participants
will design their own “perfect” towel.
A 2-3 day workshop optiton is now available. Participants
will be provided with materials ($40 materials fee) to
warp their loom. There will be enough warp for samples
for each participant and 2 towels on each loom. |

| Workshop Warp Painting from Color Inspiration |
|
|
| Description: |
Learn how to interpret a favorite painting or photo with dyes. Tracy will help the participants pull the colors from the picture using Color Aid paper then mix dyes to match. Participants will paint the warp and weft the second and third days of the workshop. You will leave the workshop with a better understanding of color, dye mixing and 2 beautiful warps and weft. Each participant will need to come with a pre-wound warp and weft for 2 projects. |
| Equipment/Facility Needs: |
Each participant will need half of a 6’ table. I need 2,
6’ tables for samples and dyes. The room should have a
water source. Floors, countertops and table tops should be
covered for protection from dye. |
| Equipment/Supplies for Students: |
A one page handout is sent prior to the workshop to each
participant outlining what supplies need to be brought to
the workshop and how to prepare their warp as well as what
types of fibers are appropriate. In a 3 day workshop they
will have time to dye 2 warps with wefts, these will need
to be prepared ahead of time and brought. Each person
should bring an apron, 2 containers (small bucket or
dishpan), 2 pre-wound warps and wefts of wool or silk and
a picture or photo to use as inspiration. |
| Duration of Workshop: |
A one day variation of Warp Painting with Sabracron F or
Lanaset dyes can be offered. The work with color paper and
color inspiration is eliminated for a one day workshop.
All of the workshop requirements are the same (tables,
maximum students) |

There is a materials fee, depends on how many days. This covers dyes, chemicals and materials used. |

| One day workshop - Warp Painting with Sabracron dyes |
|

| Description: |
Learn Tracy’s techniques for making beautiful painted warps. Participants will use Sabracron F dyes on silk to achieve luscious colors. Learn about the process of warp painting, information on Sabracron F dyes, tips for choosing a structure and weaving your finished scarf. Each participant will bring a pre-wound warp and weft and leave with a warp ready to weave! Instructions will be mailed prior to the workshop. |

| Seminar: The Power of Profiles |
|
|
| Description: |
Does the whole concept of profiles and profile drafting float right over your head? During this seminar Tracy will untie the mysteries of profile drafting. Topics covered will include: exactly what profile drafting is, appropriate structures to use in block designs, designing with profiles and drafting profiles. Students should come prepared to exercises using pencil and graph paper. Participants must have an understanding of basic drafting. |

I will need a table and overhead projector. For this class
it is best for the participants to have a writing surface,
the tables don’t have to be wide. |

| Duration of Workshop: |
This can be a 2.5 hour seminar or 5 hour workshop. In a 5
hour workshop participants will work out their own design
and I will bring my laptop computer to show how computer
software can expedite profile drafting. |

| Seminar Handwoven Clothing the Good, the Bad the UGLY! |
|
|
| Description: |
Tracy Kaestner will show her handwoven clothing from the past 25 years. A self critique of these garments will demonstrate what is good, bad and just down right ugly. Audience participation is encouraged! A one page handout with tips for making GOOD Handwoven Clothing will be given. |
